Having close relationships is one of the most rewarding and beneficial things we can experience as individuals. At the same time, relationships have the power to activate internal wounds that we never knew were present. Relationships can be challenging for a variety of reasons, as they involve the complexities of human emotions, communication, individual differences, and external factors. Relationships are never perfect and require intention, communication, vulnerability, etc. - skills that do not always feel intuitive.
In relational therapy, you and your partner have the opportunity to practice, (un)learn ways of communicating, process, and connect with each other to build an equitable and strong relationship. Relational therapy may not always be easy, but our sessions will allow for a connective and vulnerable experience with each other. Your therapist will hold both of your experiences and offer tools to show up authentically, with compassion, and still maintain the necessary boundaries to sustain the relationship and meet your personal needs.
Do you and your partner find yourselves caught in a cycle of miscommunication? Do you find yourselves "choosing peace" and staying quiet? Or maybe you both become internally heightened in the face of disagreement and conflict? Communication is the cornerstone of healthy relationships, but sometimes, even the most well-intentioned partners can find themselves struggling to connect. Together, we can talk through effective ways to hear each other while holding your own truths and feelings.
Life's journey often presents us with transitions that impact our relationships and families. Whether you're considering divorce, navigating separation, exploring cohabitation, or managing the complexities of co-parenting, we are here to support the shift that is needed to move forward.
Talking about sex in therapy can feel vulnerable and uncomfortable, and we will be here every step of the way for you and your partner. Talking about sex in therapy can be an integral aspect of addressing various emotional, psychological, and relational concerns and we are dedicated to creating a safe and nonjudgmental environment where couples can discuss their sexual experiences, concerns, desires, and challenges.
Intimacy goes beyond the bedroom - it is a profound connection that extends beyond the physical realm, encompassing emotional closeness, vulnerability, and mutual understanding. In therapy, we recognize that intimacy is a multifaceted aspect of relationships, influencing the depth of connections between individuals and partners.
We believe that maintaining your sense of self and individuality is important in any relationship. Each person brings their own set of needs, desires, and expectations to a relationship. In sessions, we will learn to identify, communicate, and appreciate each of your needs in order to build and maintain a cohesive relationship and strong sense of self.
Establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries is crucial for your emotional well-being and relationships. For folks that struggle with people pleasing, enmeshment, maintaining relationships, reactivity, etc., boundaries are a great place to start in therapy.
